IT/Computer Science
Back to Subjects“The spread of computers and the Internet will put jobs in two categories. People who tell computers what to do, and people who are told by computers what to do.”
Marc Andreessen, Entrepreneur, inventor of Netscape
Computer Science gives you an excellent opportunity to investigate how computers work and how they're used. It also gives you the knowledge to develop computer programs and problem-solving skills.
In key stage 3 (year 7-9) we look at a range of computer science and IT skills. This is for the student to gain the knowledge and understanding of computers in the world today.
Within IT we look at spreadsheets, databases, graphical imagery and Internet safety.
In computer science we look at programming, algorithms, networks, hardware and software.
IT is about using the computer software, whereas computer science is about creating the software and understanding the hardware.
In KS4 there are 2 potential options, OCR Creative iMedia (you are able to see more about this option in the subject pages) or OCR Computer Science GCSE, the course overview and examination structure can be found below.
At A level we also offer OCR Computer Science, this is a continuation of the learning at GCSE, it will require a good base knowledge acquired at KS4. The course overview and examination structure can also be found below.
