Beyond the Classroom: Clubs, Activities and Visits

At The Pingle Academy, learning doesn't stop when the lesson ends. Extra-curricular clubs, activities and educational visits are an essential part of every child's experience with us. They are also central to our values: work hard, be kind, choose wisely. Through them, students build confidence, discover new talents, make friends across year groups and learn to work with others. They also get to experience things that bring the curriculum to life.

Clubs and activities

Our weekly extra-curricular programme runs from Monday to Friday, before school, at lunchtime and after school. There is something for everyone, from football, netball and fitness to Big Band, choir, guitar and drama. There are also chess, D&D and Warhammer, language and Makaton clubs, dance, the Duke of Edinburgh Award and more. Some clubs are open to all year groups, while others are aimed at particular years.

Educational visits

Our programme of visits complements and enriches the taught curriculum. Each year group has a core offer of trips and experiences, from historic cities and museums to university visits, fieldwork, performances and residentials in the UK and abroad. Our ski trip to Bormio in Italy is open to all year groups.

Our visits booklet sets out the core offer for each year group, so families can plan and budget ahead. Further opportunities may be added during the year as they arise. Details of every visit, including the booking process, are sent via ClassCharts with a letter giving full information.

A fair way to allocate places

Some visits are very popular, and places can be limited. Where demand is greater than the number of places available, we use a random ballot so that every student has an equal chance of a place.

Financial support

We want every child to be able to take part. Financial support is available for students who are eligible for Pupil Premium funding or Free School Meals. Parents and carers are encouraged to contact the relevant visit leader to find out what help is available.
