Reconnect - Internal Alternative Provision

We deliver an inclusive learning environment through quality first teaching and wave 2 and 3 interventions.

A student will be supported in the academy’s Alternative Provision as part of our inclusive graduated response. Students supported by Reconnect are identified as needing specialist support to maintain their education. The Assistant Principal and Vice Principal will decide which students will benefit, in consultation with other senior leaders and the SENDCo.  All placements will be approved by the Principal.

Parents/carers and the student will attend a meeting with the Assistant Principal and the Reconnect Team to discuss the reintegration plan and the provision being offered to the student. Parents/carers and the student will agree to support Reconnect policies and protocols.

Students are expected to arrive punctually, wear correct uniform and follow identified protocols regarding behaviour and attendance.

An individual programme of study focussing on core subjects; Maths/English/Science supported by bespoke interventions to supported identified learning and SEMH needs is created for each student to deliver a Reintegration programme.

As well as core subjects, vocational subjects are offered. These include Animal care, Hair and Beauty, Health and Fitness, Construction and E-Sports at Level 1 and Level 2.

The student’s progress will be monitored and fed back to the student and parents/carers regularly via telephone or email.

Reconnect works closely with external agencies ensuring a holistic, inclusive approach to support students. These include the NHS, Derbyshire Inclusion support Advisory Service, Derbyshire County Council SEND team and other agencies.

Where a student makes consistent progress towards his/her agreed goals then a transition plan for a supported return to mainstream academy will be created in consultation with the student, parents/carers and the Assistant Principal.

During the student’s phased and supported return to mainstream classes, Reconnect will continue to support, offering advice and guidance to the student and staff if necessary.

If the student fails to successfully transition back into mainstream academy, then they will return to Reconnect and/or another provision will be implemented where revised goals will be agreed upon and worked towards.

If the student fails to meet the goals or subsequently fails to transition into the mainstream academy then other options will be considered as part of our Graduated Response.
