English at The Pingle Academy is full of exciting texts, characters and ideas to really foster a love for Literature and the written word. In year 7 and 8 we deliver the Accelerated Reading programme to encourage reading as a daily activity. The work covered in years 7, 8 and 9 develops and builds on the skills from primary school. Our units of work are thematically linked and cover a wide reaching time period; we explore text and writers from the early ages right up to the modern day and into the future. We want to enthuse students through diverse and thought-provoking material to ensure that reading stays with them throughout their lives. As students move into Key Stage 4 and begin their GCSEs they will study two separate qualifications; GCSE English Language and GCSE English Literature. The course overview and examination paper structure can be found below.
