Geography

Back to Subjects

“The study of geography is about more than just memorizing places on a map. It’s about understanding the complexity of our world, appreciating the diversity of cultures that exists across continents. And in the end, it’s about using all that knowledge to help bridge divides and bring people together.”

President Barack Obama

Welcome to the Geography Faculty area where we are committed to ensuring that all students make good progress through excellent teaching which inspires and engages them to work hard, be kind and choose wisely.  The Geography curriculum has been designed to harbour students' interests and create high levels of engagement and a love of learning through in depth studies of different regions of the world with the goal of demonstrating the importance of the subject through links to core content, but also past and current events/news stories as well as a focus on careers.

Geography lessons focus on developing a strong knowledge and skills base which will give students a firm foundation for further study. Frequent formal and informal assessments allow students to know how they are progressing, and allows the teachers to plan according to the specific needs of their classes and individual students. We use knowledge organisers to rehearse and recall this foundational knowledge both in lessons and as homework tasks.

Details of the curriculum which we offer can be found below.
